A book editor once told me that I couldn’t put a photograph of an ecru throw styled against a tonal, neutral backdrop on the front cover of my book. “It will look like rice pudding” was the admonishment. Well, I’m here to tell you that I’ve pretty much made a career out of rice pudding. Few, good quality ingredients, made with care and attention and always presented beautifully. Simple with delicious, unctuous textures in a pared back colour palette of natural ecru, carbon and occasionally indigo or chartreuse. Timeless recipes that you will want to return to time and again adding your own twist, embellishment, or garnish, to suit your individual taste, is what I hope to achieve. I’m talking about knitwear design of course; I don’t actually make rice pudding! (Bread-based snacks are my speciality, no baking involved, but again, always presented beautifully)
